If you find that the Optimum Used Vehicle you’ve purchased or leased isn’t the right vehicle for you, simply exchange it.

If, for any reason, you’re not completely satisfied with your Optimum Used Vehicle you may exchange it within the first 30 days or 2,500 kilometres from the date of purchase (whichever comes first) for any other eligible Optimum Used Vehicle of equal or lesser value.

If the purchase price of the replacement vehicle is less than the purchase price of the vehicle being returned, you’ll receive credit for the difference. If the purchase price of the replacement vehicle is more, you simply pay the difference.

Eligibility

All Optimum Used Vehicles, unless indicated by your GM Optimum Used Vehicle dealer, are eligible for the Exchange Privilege (if exchanged with the selling Dealer within the first 30 calendar days or 2,500 kilometres of the date of purchase - whichever occurs first).

  • The vehicle must currently be owned or leased by the retail purchaser/lessee of the Optimum Used Vehicle.
  • The vehicle must be returned in the condition in which it was delivered to the customer, without damage or excessive wear and tear.

The One Time Exchange Privilege excludes vehicles based on the following criteria:

  1. Fleet purchase or fleet lease vehicles.
  2. Vehicles used for livery, rental, taxi, or delivery services.
  3. The customer has previously returned a vehicle under the Optimum Used Vehicles One Time 30-Day or 2,500 Kilometre Exchange Privilege within a period of 12 months commencing on the return date of that previously returned vehicle.
  4. Optimum Used Vehicles that have had after-market accessories installed (e.g., radio or alarm system) unless installation was performed or sublet by the selling Optimum Used Vehicles by General Motors Dealer.

Exchange Provisions

  1. If a vehicle is structurally modified by the customer such that it would be ineligible to be certified as an Optimum Used Vehicle, the vehicle is not eligible to be exchanged under the Exchange Privilege.
  2. Vehicles must be returned to the selling Optimum Used Vehicles by General Motors Dealer and be accompanied by all used vehicle purchase or lease transaction documents, including the sales contract/lease agreement, license, and registration.
  3. The Dealer will pay registration, tax and license fees on the replacement vehicle if the customer is refused a refund by a government agency for the fees charged on the returned vehicle.
  4. The customer must pay any interest and principal balance and other amounts due in order to provide a free and clear title to the Dealer.
  5. Lease cancellation charges assessed by the lease institution will not be refunded. If, however, the customer leases the replacement vehicle, many lease companies, including GMAC, will either execute a substitution of collateral or will cancel the original lease and put the customer in a new lease without cancellation charges.
  6. If the Optimum Used Vehicles by General Motors Dealer sells a non-Optimum Used Vehicles by General Motors extended service plan to the customer, the Dealer is responsible for providing the customer a full refund. If the customer independently purchases an extended service plan, the customer is responsible for obtaining any refund.
  7. Vehicle insurance and credit life insurance and/or disability insurance are separate transactions from the vehicle purchase or lease transaction and any related expenses are the sole responsibility of the customer.

Vehicle Inspection

Any vehicle returned under the Exchange Privilege will be inspected by the Optimum Used Vehicles Dealer for damage and excessive wear and tear. If non-warranty repairs equal to or greater than $300 have been performed or are necessary, the vehicle is not eligible to be returned. If less than $300, the damage repair estimate will be deducted from the credit amount applied to the returned vehicle.

Valuation of the Returned Vehicle

The "Agreed Upon Exchange Value" will be used in determining the refund value to be applied to the replacement vehicle.

Other

There may be instances when a customer elects to exchange a vehicle under the Exchange Privilege and wait for a replacement vehicle instead of buying or leasing one from the Dealer’s available inventory. In these cases, the selling Dealer will not provide alternate transportation or allow a customer to keep the original vehicle while the replacement vehicle is secured.
